Female Doctors Unite to Share Skills, Successes and Challenges at WIML Congress

Female doctors from across the country gathered in Maseru on Friday to exchange skills, celebrate successes, and discuss the challenges they face in their professional journeys. The event also provided guidance for aspiring medical practitioners who are yet to enter the field.

Maternal and fetal medicine sub-specialist, Dr. Rethabile Ts’enoli Khalema, highlighted the importance of grounding oneself in five key pillars: determination, mentorship, support, self-care, and spiritual wellbeing. She emphasized that doctors should “choose what they love, and love what they choose,” noting that the medical profession demands stability in all aspects of life in order to provide quality care to patients.

Dr. Khalema delivered these remarks during her session titled “Navigating Postgraduate Studies as a Female Doctor” at the Women in Medicine Lesotho (WIML) 2nd Biennial Congress.

Meanwhile, the paediatrician and specialist in childhood diseases, Dr. Thabelo Makhupane, has appealed to teachers, caregivers and parents to guide children in choosing appropriate institutions for studying medicine.
