Father Takes Son to Court Over Family Home Dispute

Written by on November 13, 2025

A 53-year-old man, Teboho Thulo of Ha Fako, Maseru, has taken his son, 31-year-old Thato Thulo, to the Ha Matala Local Court before Judge Ntlobo, accusing him of refusing to hand over the lease documents for their family home.

According to Teboho, the dispute began in 2023 when Thato allegedly caused chaos within the family, leading to ongoing conflicts. He told the court that despite several attempts to resolve the matter peacefully, his son has continued to withhold the house documents.

In his defense, Thato admitted that he intends to vacate the property but asked the court to allow him more time to prepare before moving out. He explained that he had received a phone call from his brother, Lietsiso, in 2023, informing him that their father and stepmother wanted him to leave the house. Thato claimed this was because his siblings could no longer visit home while he was living there.

Teboho, on the other hand, told the court that in the same year, Thato insulted him, prompting him to report the matter to the Makhoathi Police. However, the police advised them to resolve the issue within the family. He later approached the Thamae Police, who referred him back to Makhoathi.

However, Thato maintains that he is the rightful heir to the property but reiterated that he will vacate the premises once he has adequately prepared to do so.
