Concerns are growing in Eswatini over the impact of gambling on mental health as the country’s psychiatric hospital struggles with severe overcrowding.

Hospital administrators identified gambling-related financial and social pressure as one factor appearing in some mental-health cases. Consumer advocates have called for tighter controls and stronger public education about the risks associated with problem gambling.
