In a bid to reduce problems encountered by students when sitting for examinations, the Director of Examinations, Administration and Logistics at the Examinations Council of Lesotho (ECoL), Ntaeboso Phenduka, says the council has taken its services online. He explained that parents and students can now complete all ECoL-related processes online, including registration, payments, and checking examination timetables.
Phenduka said the move aims to eliminate disputes that previously arose between schools and the examination council. In the past, some schools would delay paying examination fees until scripts were already being marked, or teachers would misuse learners’ examination fees.
He cited an example of a school where learners failed to receive their results because the fees were handed to the principal, who did not pay ECoL in time for the release of results. As a result, learners from that school have still not received their results, placing them at a disadvantage and causing tension, especially as learners from other schools have already obtained theirs.
Phenduka therefore urged parents and learners to make use of the online system and internet-based services when preparing for examinations, noting that this will help reduce the risk of fraud and ensure a smoother examination process.
