The US dollar edged higher on Monday as global markets prepared for closely watched interest-rate decisions from the US Federal Reserve and the Bank of Japan.
The dollar index traded around 99.2 while the yen remained near its strongest levels in about seven months. Investors have increased bets on a Federal Reserve rate increase after stronger US inflation data, while the Bank of Japan is also expected to consider tighter policy.
Currency markets are being influenced by diverging central-bank policy and continued energy-market uncertainty, with oil prices elevated amid geopolitical tensions.
