The Directorate on Corruption and Economic Offences, DCEO, has trained 55 young people from Leribe in a one-day anti-corruption workshop held in Hlotse this week.
DCEO Principal Public Education Officer, Thabo Ntlama, said the training aims to equip youth with knowledge about corruption and its consequences. He added that it will lead to the establishment of a Youth District Anti-Corruption Committee for Leribe.
The committee will include representatives from churches, politics, business, sports and non-governmental organisations. Mr Ntlama said involving young people is key to addressing high corruption levels and strengthening public trust. Lesotho scored 37 out of 100 on the 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index, ranking 99th out of 180 countries.
Meanwhile, District Administrator Rasebilo Maqelepo welcomed the initiative, stressing the need to introduce anti-corruption education at primary school level to promote integrity from an early age. The Leribe youth committee is expected to attend a joint training session with Butha-Buthe tomorrow
