CSIS Holds Training Workshop to Boost Climate Data Sharing and Early Warning Systems

In a move to strengthen climate resilience and disaster preparedness, Lesotho has initiated a comprehensive training workshop focused on the Climate Services Information System (CSIS), a cutting-edge web-based platform designed for managing and sharing critical climate and disaster information.

The CSIS aims to enhance collaboration among various sectors by providing an accessible platform for producing, managing, and disseminating vital climate and disaster data. The system is part of ongoing efforts to improve early warning capabilities and support informed decision-making across sectors, including agriculture, health, and emergency management.

The workshop, attended by representatives from key government departments and institutions, is focused on equipping participants with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to operate the CSIS effectively.

Thamae Lethaha from the ministry of environment and Forestry said this initiative is crucial in efforts to build resilient communities and safeguard lives and livelihoods.  He said by improving capacity to share and interpret climate data, they can respond more swiftly and effectively to climate-related hazards.

The successful adoption and operational use of the CSIS is expected to significantly enhance Lesotho’s ability to predict, prepare for, and respond to climate and disaster risks.
