Chief Justice Sakoane Sakoane has cautioned newly admitted lawyers to always be prepared and to uphold the law at all times.
Addressing them after their admission, the Chief Justice reminded the lawyers that they are now officers of the court. He urged them to keep reading, carry the rules and laws with them in court, and always demand full information and documents from their clients.
Justice Sakoane warned them against professional misconduct, stressing that advocates must not do the work of attorneys but instead stick to their lane. He further cautioned against running trust funds, saying mishandling client money can lead to money laundering. He also appealed to them not to disadvantage widows, who often face hardships after losing their husbands.
The Chief Justice encouraged the new entrants to learn from senior lawyers, seek guidance when necessary, and never present themselves as senior when they are still juniors, warning that doing so would amount to fraud.
He wished them success in their professional journey.
The new lawyers are Advocates ‘Masepiriti Kaphe and ‘Manthakoana Ramakhale, while Shale Shale was enrolled as an Attorney. They each took an oath to serve the courts of Lesotho to the best of their knowledge and ability.
