Mohale FM The Acting Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Dr Llang Maama, has described the newly launched Lesotho Civil Society Organizations Network for Immunization as a critical platform for improving public understanding of immunization and strengthening disease prevention efforts in the country.
Delivering the keynote address at the launch of the network in Maseru yesterday, Dr Maama said she had not fully appreciated the significance of the initiative until she joined the gathering, adding that she was grateful to witness what she described as a groundbreaking step in advancing public health.
Dr Maama noted that communities already have various structures and groups that people trust and engage with regularly, and said civil society organizations are well-positioned to use these networks to improve public understanding of health issues and ensure communities make informed decisions.
Dr Maama urged members of the newly established network to help reverse the trend, saying the country can no longer afford to see growing numbers of unvaccinated children, and called on all stakeholders to work together to prevent vaccine-preventable diseases.
