Mohale FM The Bureau of Statistics has issued a formal inquiry into the recent practices surrounding the engagement of enumerators for the 2026 Population and Housing Census.
In a memo addressed to regional coordinators, the bureau highlights concern over the deployment of data collectors who were not listed on the official Facebook-based enumeration lists approved by the Office of the Principal Secretary.
The memo, signed by Bureau of Statistics Director, Malehloa Molato has called for immediate reports from regional offices to explain how some enumerators, who did not appear on the official lists, were engaged into fieldwork. The bureau of Statistics emphasizes that all enumerators were supposed to be selected strictly from the approved lists, with replacements to be made only through official channels provided by the Human Resources Office.
According to the memo, there are discrepancies involving a number of enumerators who were deployed but do not match the official approved lists.
Speaking to Mohale FM, Public Relations Officer Neo Mokatsa, said the issue is not with the enumerators but the BOS itself for the discrepancy, therefore the exercise shall not affect the enumerators.
Meanwhile unsatisfied enumerators who have not been paid have asked for a permit to have a march on Monday at nine in the morning until three in the afternoon.
