The Botswana Stock Exchange has secured its first initial public offering since 2017, with Continental Reinsurance choosing Gaborone as the base for its listing and wider pan-African growth plans.
Continental Re group managing director Lawrence Nazare said Botswana’s regulatory environment, institutional investor base and ambition to become a regional financial hub helped drive the decision. The company moved its headquarters from Mauritius to Gaborone last year.
The listing gives the BSE a chance to demonstrate its ability to handle major capital raises after years in which new primary listings remained scarce despite strong long-term market returns.
