Botswana President Duma Boko has rejected concerns that a privately backed modular-school initiative could create undue influence over his government, saying state institutions remain independent.
According to Botswana Guardian, questions have been raised around the Africa Hero Foundation initiative and links involving businessman Zunaid Moti. The project is promoting privately sponsored modular schools and clinics, with supporters arguing that it can accelerate delivery of public infrastructure without relying on government funding.
Boko said Botswana’s institutional safeguards make the country resistant to state capture. The foundation has said sponsors finance completed infrastructure directly and that the model is intended to be replicated in other African countries.
