Bulane Salemane, a 48-year-old man from Ha Foso in Berea, appeared before the Maphoka Magistrate’s Court on 23 March this year, charged with assaulting and threatening to kill his wife.
The court ordered him to pay a fine of M2,000.00 or serve two years’ imprisonment. He failed to pay the fine.
According to Police Constable Tšepo Ramafialane from the Child and Gender Protection Unit (CGPU), a 40-year-old Mosotho woman reported to their office on 7 March 2026, alleging that Salemane had assaulted her and threatened her life.
Investigations revealed that on 6 March this year, the woman—who earns a living by selling chickens—was on her way to deliver poultry to customers when the accused approached her and attempted to take some of the chickens to sell himself. When she refused, an argument broke out, during which the accused assaulted her and threatened to kill her.
Police Constable Ramafialane urged men to stop abusing women and making death threats against them. He emphasized that domestic violence negatively affects children and must come to an end. He also appealed to families to resolve conflicts through dialogue.
