Mohale FM Despite assurances from the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Honourable Limpho Tau, that Basotho will not be affected by the ongoing unrest in South Africa targeting foreign nationals, some citizens remain unconvinced that they will be spared when the planned action takes place on the 30th of this month.
In an interview, the Executive Director of the Migrant Workers Association of Lesotho, Mr. Lerato Nkhets’e, says although the government has introduced a document that Basotho wishing to return home must complete, there is very little time left before the planned unrest. He warned that this could leave many Basotho vulnerable to being caught up in the violence.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mokete Moroma, who works in Newcastle and serves as the coordinator for Basotho employed there, echoed similar concerns. He said the limited time remaining before the planned action makes it difficult to believe that any measures introduced now will be sufficient to protect Basotho living and working in South Africa.
