Analyst Commends Stability of Lesotho’s Coalition Government

Lesotho’s political analyst, Mr. Gabasheane Masupha, says the current coalition government has managed to reach its third year in power because its partners have developed a strong understanding when it comes to the passing of laws and general governance.
He explained that even when disagreements arise among coalition partners, they communicate in a constructive manner that prevents disputes from negatively affecting their political parties or the functioning of government.
Mr. Masupha noted that one of the main reasons previous coalition governments in Lesotho failed to last was a lack of discipline and poor conflict management. He said unlike before, when leaders struggled to resolve internal issues, the current coalition has shown maturity by handling disputes through dialogue and cooperation rather than allowing conflicts to destabilize the alliance.
He added that Mauritius remains a leading example of successful coalition governance, as it has been governed through coalition arrangements since gaining independence in 1966, and continues to offer valuable guidance to Lesotho in this regard.
