Prof. Mahao Calls for Education Reform to Align with Lesotho’s Economic Needs

The leader of the Basotho Action Party (BAP), Professor Nqosa Mahao, says Lesotho’s education system does not give young people the opportunity to shape it according to their needs, nor does it invest adequately in fields that could strengthen the country’s economy, such as science and agriculture.
Professor Mahao explained that he has taken steps to introduce new programs at the National University of Lesotho (NUL), aimed at transforming the way education is delivered. However, he emphasized that such initiatives require strong government support and investment to ensure that schools and universities have the necessary resources and tools for effective implementation.
He added that one of the major consequences of the current education system is that many young people complete their studies but struggle to find employment, as the system fails to equip them with the skills needed in the job market.
