The Minister of Natural Resources, Mohlomi Moleko says more than 1.5 million people living in Lesotho’s lowlands will gain improved access to safe water once the Lesotho Lowlands Development Project is fully implemented.
Speaking yesterday at the arrival of dredging machines for the Rasebale Dam in Mafeteng, Moleko said government has prioritized expanding water infrastructure to ensure every Mosotho has reliable access.
He said they have already commenced work on the lowlands project in Butha-Buthe, and that other components are still in progress.
The Lesotho Lowlands Development Project is a national initiative aimed at addressing chronic water shortages in the country’s most populated region. The lowlands, which are home to the majority of Basotho, have faced growing pressure on existing water sources due to population variability.
